Shot policewoman goes home for Xmas

A police officer who was shot and badly injured while on duty earlier this month will be well enough to spend Christmas with her family, her force has said.

Pc Suzanne Hudson had been in hospital since she was fired at while she was attending a routine call in Leeds on December 4.

It was reported she suffered injuries to her hand, face and neck.

Staff at Leeds General Infirmary have discharged the 33-year-old to allow her to go home, although she will continue to need treatment in the future.

Chief Superintendent Paul Money, Leeds District Commander, said: "Assistant Chief Constable Mark Milsom and I visited Suzanne in hospital yesterday and she had made excellent progress - so much so that her consultant was happy for her to be discharged in time for Christmas.

"She is in good spirits and is looking forward to Christmas at home with her family. She is overwhelmed by all the messages of support and best wishes that she has received from colleagues and others.

"She will require further hospital treatment as she continues to recover but that will be as an outpatient.

"It is great news that she is now out of hospital and we wish her all the best for her continued recovery."

A 37-year-old local man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder.
