Six held after fatal 'assault'

Six men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 46-year-old man died following a suspected assault, police said.

South Yorkshire Police said the man who died was found collapsed in the street in Christchurch Road, Doncaster, on Friday evening.

A force spokeswoman said: "Police are holding six men are in custody after they responded, along with the ambulance service, to the report of a man collapsed in the street."

She continued: "Officers were called to Christchurch Road in Doncaster at around 10pm on Friday and discovered a 46-year-old local man with head injuries.

"Unfortunately, paramedics were unable to save him and he died at the scene."

"All six men arrested by police are being held on suspicion of murder at Doncaster Police Station."

The victim has not been named and a post-mortem examination is expected to take place later.

It is understood weapons are not thought to have been used in the incident.
