Stabbed baby 'critical but stable'
A two-month-old baby boy was fighting for his life in hospital, while a man arrested on suspicion of his repeated stabbing remained in police custody.
Officers were called to a house on Alfred Road, in the Handsworth area of Birmingham, at around 10.45pm on Friday night, and discovered the seriously injured infant.
The baby was admitted to hospital with life-threatening internal injuries but his condition stabilised following an emergency operation, a spokesman for West Midlands Police said.
A 37-year-old man arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder was taking into custody for questioning where he remains.
The force spokesman said: "The child remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
"He is alive and is doing well despite various severe internal injuries."
Forensic examination of the property is ongoing, the spokesman added.
