Stores ready for pre-wedding surge
The day before the royal wedding will be the busiest supermarket shopping day of the year so far, according to one retailer.
Morrisons is predicting most people will leave it to the last minute before stocking up on celebratory party food.
The supermarket chain is expecting a rush of shoppers at 5.34pm on Thursday April 28, when most people will be finishing work ahead of the public holiday on Friday April 29.
Martyn Jones, the firm's group corporate services director, said: "We tend to see a spike in sales at tea time just before a bank holiday.
"Based on our research, it looks like customers are going to leave it to the last minute."
He added: "Our stores will be on red alert on Thursday April 28 at 5.34pm as we believe that that could be a moment our sales peak for the year so far."
Over Easter and in the run-up to the wedding, Morrisons is expecting to sell more than 90,000 bottles of Champagne, 1,060,000 paper cups and some 182,850 metres of bunting.
