Teen trio jailed for axe killing

By Emily Pennick

Three teenagers have been jailed for a fatal axe and knife attack on a drunken man.

Paul Thrower was stabbed 10 times and attacked with a 4ft axe in Hayes, Middlesex, in February.

Zakariya Subeir and Kiro Halliburton, both 18, claimed they acted in self-defence after Mr Thrower went for them, as they had been taunting his girlfriend.

But following a trial at the Old Bailey, Halliburton was found guilty of murder and sentenced to a minimum of 16 years' jail.

Subeir and a third defendant, Mahdi Osman, also 18, were convicted of manslaughter. Subeir was given eight years in a young offenders' institution and Osman five-and-a-half years.
