Teenage girl raped on golf course

A teenage girl was dragged into undergrowth and raped on a golf course while people were still playing nearby, police have said.

The 16-year-old was attacked after leaving a friend at Littlehill Golf Club's course in Bishopbriggs, Glasgow.

A man came up behind and tried to speak to her, then grabbed her and dragged her into undergrowth near the 10th green, where he raped her.

Strathclyde Police appealed for information about the incident, which happened at around 8pm on September 10.

Detective Constable Alan Watt said: "We know that there were golfers still playing on the course around the time of the incident and it's possible that someone may have seen the suspect prior to, or after the attack took place.

"I would appeal to people who were on the course that evening to please get in touch with us as a matter of urgency. A young woman has been subjected to a terrifying ordeal and it's imperative we trace the man responsible."

She was attacked as she walked in the direction of Auchinairn Road. Officers have been checking CCTV images and carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the surrounding area.

The golf course is overlooked by houses on Acredyke Road in Balornock and police said it is possible someone may have seen the suspect either before or after the incident.

The suspect is described as a white Scottish man aged between 25 and 30. He was around 5ft 8in, of medium build and wearing a dark-coloured jacket and dark trousers.
