Teenager held over fatal fire named

An 18-year-old being held on suspicion of murder after a house fire left four dead has been named as Dyson Allen.

Allen was arrested following the fire last Saturday evening at the bungalow in Freckleton, Lancashire, which killed siblings, Reece Smith, 19, four-year-old twin girls Holly and Ella Smith and Jordan Smith, two.

Police sources confirmed the youth arrested is Allen, who is not related to the victims.

He was held at an address in nearby Lytham and is now being questioned by detectives at Blackpool police station.

Police confirmed the fire began inside a wardrobe in one of the upstairs attic bedrooms at the house on Lytham Road, Freckleton.

The victims' mother, Michelle Smith, 36, who has five other children, was led out of the house by firefighters.

The blaze took hold hours after the family held a party at the house to celebrate her birthday.

Post-mortem examinations carried out by a Home Office pathologist revealed each victim died as a result of the effects of inhaling smoke.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Esseen, from Lancashire Police, said: "I can confirm that this fire is now being treated as suspicious. We are following a number of lines of inquiry and have spoken with a number of people who were at the house on the night in question.

"However, I would still urge anybody who has any information which they believe could assist us with our investigation to come forward."
