Thomas Cook pilots to stage 24 hour strike after pay dispute talks fail

The pilots staged a 24 hour strike earlier this month.

Thomas Cook pilots will strike on Saturday after five days of talks failed to resolve a dispute over pay.

Members of the British Airline Pilots’ Association (Balpa) will walk out for 24 hours, with further industrial action threatened.

The two sides have been meeting at the conciliation service Acas after a dispute flared over a 1.5% pay offer. The union is seeking a rise in line with inflation and better travel facilities.

The pilots staged a 24 hour strike earlier this month.

Balpa general secretary Brian Strutton told the Press Association: “Tortuous negotiations at Acas have failed to resolve the pay dispute between Thomas Cook and Balpa pilots.

“Whilst both sides have compromised there is still a considerable gap. Regrettably this means the strike on Saturday goes ahead.

“Balpa has given ample warning to enable Thomas Cook to change its schedules and minimise passenger disruption.

“I have also offered strike dispensations to help out in the hurricane-hit Caribbean. Our argument is not with passengers.”
