Three people are to appear in court over an alleged plot to blackmail Coleen Rooney after she lost her mobile phone.
Lee Platt, 28, Jennifer Green, 25, and Steven Malcolm, 42, are charged with blackmail and handling stolen goods.
The wife of Manchester United and England footballer Wayne was the subject of an alleged plot after receiving a demand, reportedly a "five-figure" sum, for handing over private pictures of the couple's baby son Kai.
The photos were on a camera which was accidentally left at the MEN Arena, in Manchester, when the Rooney's went to a gig by US band the Black Eyed Peas in May last year.
Despite a search of the concert arena's VIP area, the camera was not handed in and instead the photos were reportedly offered for sale to a variety of newspapers.
During the prolonged investigation, Mrs Rooney is understood to have co-operated with British Transport Police (BTP), who are responsible for policing the venue next to Manchester's Victoria railway station. She could be called to give evidence if the matter goes to trial.
A spokesman for BTP said on Friday: "Three people have been charged with blackmail following a lengthy British Transport Police investigation.
"Lee Barry Platt, 28, of Heaton Park Road, Blackley, Jennifer Amy Green, 25, of Heaton Park Road and Steven Edward Malcolm, 42, of Silkin Close, Chorlton, were charged, yesterday with blackmail and handling stolen goods.
"The charges relate to an incident in May 2010 in which a mobile phone was stolen from a private area of the Manchester Evening News arena.
"Platt, Green and Malcolm have been bailed to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court on June 20."
