Three rescued after Lolly Roger boat capsizes

Three people had to be rescued when a boat selling ice cream capsized.

The Lolly Roger is believed to have overturned when a freezer containing ice cream rolled while on board. The three were not seriously injured.

A mayday call was made to Coastguards when a motor cruiser spotted the capsized vessel and crew in water off Hengistbury Head in Dorset.

The motor cruiser, Badgers Retreat, picked up the three men and took them to Mudeford Quay, where they were met by Southbourne Coastguard rescue team.

A spokeswoman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said the coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Portland was scrambled but stood down as it was not required.

A prohibition notice was served on the vessel as equipment on board makes the vessel unsafe.
