Tories fear DUP standing in GB election, claims Sammy Wilson
The DUP would have the Conservatives "shaking in their shoes" if it fielded candidates in Great Britain, Sammy Wilson has suggested.
The East Antrim MP's comments drew laughs in the Commons as MPs debated regional rates in Northern Ireland.
"If you live in a Labour controlled council you're likely to pay £100 more on council tax than if you lived in a Conservative controlled council. If you lived in a DUP controlled council you'll pay even less," he said.
"I think that's a point worth noting - maybe the answer is that instead of having a confidence and supply arrangement with the Conservatives, the DUP should be standing in local council areas in the rest of the UK to ensure that ratepayers get good value for money."
He added: "That'll have them shaking in their shoes."
