Tory MP in voicemail threats to staff member row

By Andrew Woodcock

A series of voicemail recordings have been leaked in which a Tory MP apparently threatens to sack a sick staff member.

In the messages obtained by the Evening Standard, Lucy Allan described Arianne Plumbly's absence as "pathetic" and said "we all know you're not ill". When the staff member was signed off sick for a number of weeks, Ms Allan left a message telling her: "If you sign yourself off sick for four months the only option will be to dismiss you."

Ms Plumbly told the Standard that Ms Allan's office was "a nasty environment" in which to work.
