Tributes are paid as Cardinal laid to rest
Former Archbishop of Westminster Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor was remembered as a "gifted man" at his funeral, attended by more than 1,000 people.
Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg, former Irish President Mary McAleese and the Duke of Norfolk, representing Prince Charles, all attended Requiem Mass at a packed Westminster Cathedral.
Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor, who became leader of the Catholic Church in England and Wales in 2000 before retiring in 2009, died on September 1 having battled cancer.
Archbishop of Cardiff George Stack told those gathered: "He was a gifted man who would have made a success of whatever career he chose."
But he learned "a huge lesson", the archbishop said, in an apparent reference to a controversy Murphy-O'Connor faced over how the Church handled claims of child sex abuse.
