Tributes paid to woman who died trying to save pet

Tributes have been paid to a 66-year-old woman who died after she was hit by a van while trying to save her dog which got loose on a motorway.

Patricia Connors and her pet died after it ran on to the carriageway of the M4 near Cardiff Gate services on Friday evening.

In a statement, her family said they were heartbroken.

"The family of Patricia Joyce Connors are heartbroken trying to come to terms with a tragic accident that has taken a loving mum, grandmother and great-grandmother," they said.

The westbound carriageway was closed for five hours. Ms Connors, who was driving a white Volkswagen Golf, was pronounced dead at the scene.
