TV Dec's double bereavement

Popular television presenter Declan Donnelly, whose family hails from Desertmartin in Co Londonderry, is nursing more private grief after it was revealed that his dad and uncle passed away within 10 days of one another.

It has now emerged that Declan and one of his brothers travelled back to Northern Ireland unannounced to attend their uncle Anthony's funeral at St Patrick's Church in Keenaght, Desertmartin, and chatted to friends, relatives and local mourners at the wake house.

One half of comedy duo Ant & Dec, the Geordie lad buried his father Alphonsus, known as Phonsie, in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne on Saturday just days after attending the funeral of his uncle Anthony back in Northern Ireland.

Dec is the youngest of seven children of Anne and Phonsie, who died on August 19, aged 78, after a battle with lung cancer.

Just 10 days earlier Phonsie's brother Anthony, who lived at Cullion Road in Desertmartin, also died.

Anne and Phonsie moved to Newcastle from Co Derry in the late 1950s and Phonsie worked for over 20 years as a steward in the Tyneside Irish Centre.
