Two men have been charged with the murder of a father of one believed to have been killed for his iPhone, police said.

The unnamed men, aged 26 and 27, will face magistrates in Cheltenham on Saturday morning accused of the murder and robbery of Keith Soons.

Mr Soons was stabbed in the head with what police believe was a screwdriver-type weapon in Cheltenham during the early hours of February 5.

The 36-year-old, from Gloucester, was found in Wellington Lane by a member of the public at around 8am. He died in hospital later that day.

Preliminary results from a post-mortem examination show that Mr Soons is likely to have died from a penetrative puncture wound to the side of his head.

Detectives believe this may have been caused by a screwdriver-type weapon as the fashion chain worker attempted to get his iPhone 4 back.

Mr Soons' distinctive silver-coloured "DAD" ring, which he was given by his partner Sam Ramsey, was also missing, along with his Lloyds TSB debit card, which was inside his leather iPhone 4 Griffin Elan passport wallet.

Last week Miss Ramsey, 23, the mother of his eight-month-old daughter Tilly, made an emotional appeal for information.

"Keith was a lovely man, he was a funny man. Even when he smiled, even his smile would make you laugh," she said.

A Gloucestershire Police spokesman said: "Two local men, aged 26 and 27, were tonight both charged with the robbery and murder of Mr Soons. They remain in custody and will appear before magistrates in Cheltenham tomorrow morning."
