Two people are being questioned by Greater Manchester Police after a body was found in a house in Gorton, Manchester

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a man's body.

Police were called by paramedics to a house in Hyde Road, Gorton, Manchester, just before 1.50pm on Saturday, where they found the 44-year-old's body.

A 54-year-old man and a woman, 49, were being questioned by detectives on suspicion of murder, Greater Manchester Police said.

A post-mortem examination was carried out to establish the cause of death.

Chief Superintendent Russ Jackson said: "First and foremost our thoughts are with the man's loved ones at this time.

"I know residents will be alarmed by this incident, but I want to reassure the community that a thorough investigation is now taking place and there are extra patrols in the area.

"I would urge anyone who has information that can assist our inquiries to call us as soon as possible."
