Two killed in shooting at riding centre

A father has been shot dead and his son wounded in a shooting incident in which another man died.

Emergency services were called to Meadowhead Farm at Auldhouse, near East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire, at about 8.10am yesterday.

A police spokesman said officers found the bodies of two men, aged 59 and 53.

A 36-year-old man is being treated in hospital for leg wounds.

Neither of the dead men has yet been named by police who are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

The 59-year-old man was found with fatal injuries within the farm, while his 36-year-old son was found in Langlands Road with injuries to his leg, police said.

Specialist firearms officers searched the area and the 53-year-old man was found nearby in a vehicle with fatal injuries.

Superintendent Elaine Ferguson: "When we were dealing with this incident we received information that led us to the Clarkston area.

"We deployed further resources and a male is now a witness in relation to the first incident although he wasn't at the farm at the time.

"We are not looking for anybody else in relation to this incident and all the firearms are contained to that farm and there is no danger to the public."

She said none of the men was known to police. The 53-year-old man had a firearms licence.

A floral tribute left at the scene read: "RIP Peter. A true gentleman. You will be sadly missed."

The owner of the farm, a licensed equestrian centre which offers lessons and treks, was listed as Peter Thompson.
