Two more held over hospital probe

Police have arrested two more people over allegations that carers routinely abused vulnerable adults with learning difficulties at a residential hospital.

Avon and Somerset police have now arrested 11 people after undercover footage of the apparent misconduct at Winterbourne View, in Bristol, was recorded by investigators from BBC's Panorama programme.

Last week police arrested staff members Wayne Rogers, 30, from Hanham, Bristol, Graham Doyle, 25, from Bristol, and Allison Dove, 24, along with a 42-year-old man.

They were shown on the Panorama programme appearing to taunt and abuse the vulnerable adults in their care.

On Tuesday two women aged 22 and 21 and three men aged 58, 40 and 28 were also arrested.

And on Thursday, police confirmed a further two men had been arrested and bailed.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police have arrested a further two people in connection with inquiries linked to allegations of abuse and mistreating of patients at the Winterbourne View Hospital in Hambrook.

"Two men, aged 26 and 32 years, have been arrested under the Mental Capacity Act and released on police bail, pending further inquiries.

"Nine other people - six men and three women - had already been arrested by police and remain on police bail, pending further inquiries."

The hospital's owner, Castlebeck, has suspended 13 members of staff.
