Two teenagers killed in car crash

Two 16-year-olds have been killed after a car crashed into a tree and a garden wall.

Police in Merseyside are appealing for witnesses after a silver Peugeot 207 lost control at the junction of the East Lancashire Road and Townsend Avenue in Walton, Liverpool, at around 4.55am on Sunday morning.

It is not yet known if the crash was caused by the Arctic weather conditions.

The two teenage boys who died, who were from Walton, were both passengers in the car.

One was declared dead at the scene while the other was taken to hospital but later died.

The 21-year-old driver of the car, from the Norris Green area, is in a critical condition in hospital.

It is believed the car was travelling out of the city along Walton Lane and Walton Hall Avenue.

The road was closed while police carried out an examination of the scene.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said it was not clear at this stage what caused the driver to lose control of the car.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them on 0151 7775 771 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 000.
