A woman has appeared in court charged with making threats to kill the Pope during his state visit.

Pauline Lunney, 56, denied a charge of making threats to kill when she appeared at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court.

Officers who raided her home in Ridley Avenue, Wallsend, allegedly found an imitation gun and an overnight National Express bus ticket to London.

Lunney must return to court on November 17 to be committed to the Crown Court for trial.

She was released on conditional bail.
