Woman in hospital after M11 pile-up
An elderly woman is in a "life-threatening" condition after a crash involving a coach, four lorries and four cars brought a motorway to a standstill.
Sections of both carriageways of the M11 in Essex were shut for more than eight hours following the accident near Stansted airport at around 10am on Monday.
Emergency service workers said five people were hurt and four treated in hospital.
Police said the elderly woman, being treated at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, was a passenger on the coach.
The northbound carriageway was due to stay shut until the early hours of Tuesday a police spokesman said.
