Youths held after death of teen boy

By Richard Vernalls

Five teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences following the death of a 17-year-old boy.

Paramedics discovered the youth unconscious after being called to Old School Lane and the junction of Kingsway in Hereford at about 3am yesterday.

The ambulance service said it transported the patient to Hereford County Hospital, where he later died.

West Mercia Police said it had arrested five boys from the local area - four of them aged 17 and one 16-year-old - as its officers continue to investigate the circumstances.

Police were alerted at 4.15am and the youngster's death is currently being treated as unexplained.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 2.58am to reports of an unconscious patient.

"One ambulance attended the scene. We found one patient, a male, who was transported to Hereford County Hospital."
