Village hails £405k grant from Lottery

Remember those Sunday afternoons when you used to head up the Antrim Coast Road, stopping off for an ice cream and a paddle on the little beach at Ballygally on the way home?

That ice cream has become a distant memory over the last couple of years after the Co Antrim village’s only shop was demolished to make way for apartments.

However, Ballygally is celebrating today after it was awarded £405,840 of Lottery money to transform part of a car park into a new shop and community centre.

Ballygally Community Development Association will work with Hampshire businessman Richard Long to develop their idea to build a retail shop and community hall in the main street.

Association chairman Jim McCurdy said: “This will put the heart back into the village and give people a reason to stop and buy an ice cream.”
