More than 34,000 teddy bears thrown onto hockey rink in world record toy donation

Thousands of stuffed animals were thrown onto the ice at a Hershey Bears hockey match.

Thousands of teddy bears and other soft toys were thrown onto an ice rink during a Hershey Bears hockey match, to be donated to local charities.

More than 34,000 toys were donated by hockey fans at the Giant Center in Pennsylvania, an amount the team claims is a world record.

Footage taken at the hockey game shows the ice rink filling up fast with stuffed toys donated by fans.

The 34,798 bears donated in the holiday tradition surpassed the more than 25,000 bears donated in 2017.

The stuffed animals will be gathered up by the hockey team and donated to about 30 local charities including schools and food banks.

Hershey Bears player Riley Barber’s first goal against the Binghamton Devils set off the teddy bear toss onto the ice.

The Bears then went on to defeat the Devils, scoring six points to three.

This teddy bear toss surpassed the previous world record of 28,815 bears collected by the Western Hockey League’s Calgary Hitmen in 2015.
