Watch: Goalkeeper gets champagne trophy celebration very wrong
Luckily Cardiff Met’s Estelle Randall wasn’t hurt by the misfiring cork.
Shaking up a bottle of champagne is a time-honoured tradition when it comes to celebrating sporting achievement – but it is not without risk.
Cardiff Met WFC goalkeeper Estelle Randall was celebrating with her team-mates on Sunday after they were presented with the Welsh Women’s Premier League trophy following a 2-0 win over Briton Ferry.
And while Randall certainly did her best when it came to shaking up the bottle of bubbly, removing the cork proved something of a tougher challenge.
When the cork did finally pop, it appeared to take her completely by surprise, sending her shooting backwards as she lost her grasp on the bottle.
I just want to thank @yzzytaylor for teaching me such great diving technique this year,— BlackCat (@estelle_randall) April 1, 2019
also a mention to @CMetSandC for making me strong enough to eventually get the cork off 💪🏾🍾 https://t.co/JAmtKer5Dy
Cardiff Met branded it the “funniest trophy celebration you will ever see” in a tweet, adding: “No goalkeepers were harmed in the making of this video.”
Randall herself proved she saw the funny side as she tweeted: “Shot stopping > champagne popping.”
