Votes call as city bids for wildflowers Lottery cash

By Linda Stewart

Young offenders could help to transform Belfast into a city of wildflowers.

The city council is hoping to win £135,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to bring beautiful natural colour to a series of local community sites, transforming the environment and providing work opportunities for locals and training opportunities for young offenders.

The project is one of three hoping to be the Grow Wild flagship project for Northern Ireland.

However, Belfast must first win a public vote. Polls open on October 6, and will be accessible by web, phone and email with the result the following month, and the victorious scheme ready to begin planting next spring.

For more information visit and follow the project on Facebook, and Twitter @belfastcc for details on how to vote. Follow the conversation on social media via the hashtags #sowBelfast and #GWBelfast
