Woman 'critical' after car crash

A 29-year-old woman was in a serious condition in hospital last night after a car crash in Co Armagh.

The accident happened at Camlough Park off Green Road, Bessbrook just before 6.35pm.

The woman is understood to have been a passenger in the car which hit a telegraph pole.

A 23-year-old man who was driving the car was treated for injuries which were not thought to be life threatening.

Both victims were taken to Daisy Hill Hospital.

The Fire Service were called in to rescue both people.

No other vehicle was involved in the crash.

Meanwhile two children were recovering in hospital last night after a car accident in Co Antrim.

A nine-year-old boy was in a stable condition at the Royal Victoria Hospital's children's unit in Belfast after the accident in Aghalee.

Another boy, aged 15 was taken to Lagan Valley Hospital but was later transferred to Belfast City Hospital for observation.

None of the children had injuries which were life threatening.

The accident involving a car and a van occurred on the Soldierstown Road in Aghalee just before 2pm yesterday.

One man was arrested in connection with the crash but was released on bail pending further enquiries.

The Soldierstown Road was re-opened again at about 5pm.

Last weekend seven people died in what has been described as a weekend of carnage on Ulster's roads.
