12 killed in India helicopter crash

An Indian supply helicopter returning from a mission along the border with China has crashed, killing all 12 people on board, the Indian military said.

Defence spokesman Colonel R Kalya said the crash took place minutes after the MI-17 helicopter took off from the air force base at Tawang in north-eastern India following its supply mission along the border.

He said the crash occurred deep inside Indian territory and there was no sign of foul play.

The government will hold an inquiry into the crash.
