23 injured as school bus overturns
A school bus has overturned on Interstate 81 in central Pennsylvania, injuring nearly two dozen adults and children.
The bus struck a car that had veered into its lane before flipping over.
Pennsylvania State Police said 79-year-old Edward Shaffer, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed the bus on the left and took evasive action from an oncoming vehicle. Officials say he is believed to have over-corrected his vehicle, causing it to rotate sideways in front of the bus.
Troopers say the bus, which was heading to a camp in Quakertown and driven by 52-year-old Joseph Henderson, of Chambersburg, hit the passenger side of Mr Shaffer's car. Mr Shaffer's vehicle went into a ditch on the right side of the road. The bus partially entered the ditch, struck a guard rail and rolled o nto its roof.
Three children and Mr Shaffer had to be removed from the vehicles.
State police say 17 adults and children were taken to Chambersburg Hospital, and six other patients were taken to Waynesboro Hospital. Officials said the injuries were not life-threatening and ranged from minor to moderate.
