Actor Shia LaBeouf arrested outside New York City museum

Actor Shia LaBeouf has been arrested after he allegedly got into an altercation with another man outside a New York City museum.

Police said the Hollywood star pulled the scarf of an unidentified 25-year-old man outside the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens early on Thursday morning, scratching his face in the process. Police said he also pushed the man, who refused medical attention.

LaBeouf faces an assault charge but it was not known if he had a lawyer available for comment.

The 30-year-old actor has spent the first few days of Donald Trump's presidency chanting "He will not divide us" in front of a live camera outside the museum.

The livestream is for a participatory public art project LaBeouf and two collaborators intend to have running for the next four years.

In October 2015, LaBeouf was charged with public intoxication after an incident in Austin, Texas.

He was arrested in the city's Sixth Street entertainment district, where the Austin City Limits music festival was taking place.

He has previously made headlines with bizarre escapades - including yelling from the audience during a Broadway show and wearing a paper bag on his head to a film premiere - and has been treated for an alcohol problem.
