Aide quits after pop at Obama's daughters sparks backlash
An aide to a US congressman has resigned after her critical comments about President Barack Obama's daughters sparked a backlash.
Elizabeth Lauten, communications director to Republican Stephen Fincher, commented on Malia and Sasha Obama's pose and dress at a White House ceremony last week in which their father pardoned a turkey, a presidential tradition for Thanksgiving.
"Rise to the occasion," she wrote. "Act like being in the White House matters to you. Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar."
Ms Lauten later apologised for the comments on Facebook.
