Beached US dolphins puzzle experts

A mysterious outbreak of dolphin beachings is baffling wildlife experts in Massachusetts.

After 11 dolphins were stranded on Cape Cod on Tuesday, the total for the last month is 177 - five times what researchers typically see in a year. So far, 124 have died.

No one can explain the strandings, though researchers are trying.

Meanwhile, the pace is wearing out rescue teams at the International Fund for Animal Welfare.

Team manager Katie Moore says no one knows when it is going to end, and that can be exhausting.

She has been encouraged by IFAW's success so far in getting 53 of the dolphins back to sea.

She says humans have such a big effect on the ocean, they need to help the dolphins when they can. Fund for Animal Welfare)l
