Boeing lease space shuttle hangar

Boeing is to announce plans to lease the hanger that housed the space shuttles to build similar crafts that will bring people and cargo to space.

Governor Rick Scott's office and President Barack Obama's administration confirmed plans for the announcement between Space Florida, the state's space agency, and Boeing.

The deal will create 140 jobs over the next 18 months and 550 jobs by 2015 in an area that has lost jobs as the space shuttle programme was retired earlier this year.

The reusable space capsules will be able to bring up to seven people into space.

Currently, the United States does not have a way to transport people or cargo to the International Space Station.
