Boy (11) left home alone with sister 'shoots teenage intruder in the head'
An 11-year-old left home alone has shot dead a teenager in Missouri, it has been reported.
Left at home with his four-year-old sister, the child fired at a 16-year-old who was allegedly trying to break into their house in St Louis, according to CNN.
Police arrived at the home yesterday afternoon and reportedly found the alleged intruder had been shot in the head.
St Louis County police Sgt. Brian Schellman told CNN that it was third time that the 16-year-old had attempted to break into the house.
The two siblings were not hurt in the incident and it is unclear why they were left at home alone.
However, some witnesses gave a different account of events, saying both boys were on the front porch when the 11-year-old took out the gun and fired.
"They were just arguing loud, you know, back and forth," one woman said.
"He was always was just sitting right there on the porch," she said. "He never did once go inside the house."
The KTVI/KPLR television station reported that the children’s mother had bought the handgun because of previous break-in attempts.
A second alleged intruder was arrested shortly after the incident.
