British television productions have picked up a leading seven International Emmy nominations in the US, including acting nods for Christopher Eccleston in "Accused" and Julie Walters in "Mo."

"Mo" was also nominated for best TV Movie/Mini-Series. Walters is recognised for her portrayal of Mo Mowlam, the late Secretary of State for Northern Ireland who battled a brain tumour while working to forge the 1998 peace agreement.

"Mo" is competing against the Swedish TV mini-series "Millennium," based on the late Stieg Larsson's crime novel trilogy. Millennium's Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Rapace are nominated in the acting categories.

Brazil has six nominations, all for TV Globo productions, followed by Japan with four.

Nominees from a record 20 countries will be competing for International Emmys to be presented on November 21.
