Bruce Springsteen cancels North Carolina show over anti-discrimination law block

Bruce Springsteen has cancelled a concert in North Carolina over the state's new law blocking anti-discrimination rules covering the LGBT community.

The star will not perform a show scheduled for Sunday in Greensboro because of the law, which critics say discriminates against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

The Born In The USA singer said the law "is an attempt by people who cannot stand the progress our country has made in recognising the human rights of all of our citizens to overturn that progress".

Springsteen and the E Street Band pledged to "show solidarity with those freedom fighters".

Later, Springsteen used his Facebook page to urge followers to contact politicians, adding a link to find them.

People who bought tickets will get refunds.
