Bus crash kills 29 in Thailand

A passenger bus smashed through the guard rail on a bridge in northern Thailand and then plunged into a ravine, killing 29 of the 33 people on board.

The accident took place in northern Thailand late last night.

The bus fell 50 yards into the ravine from the Khun Pha Muang bridge, said Ban Klang district Deputy Chief Police Jiraphat Tanrak.

Lax vehicle maintenance, poor driver education and crowded roads mean deadly accidents are more common in Thailand and other developing countries than in many Western nations.
