Call to kick Murdoch sons off board
An Australian pension fund advocate has said Rupert Murdoch's sons James and Lachlan should be voted off the News Corporation board along with four other directors who are too close to the media dynasty.
The Australian Council of Superannuation Investors has advised its 42 pension fund members managing £160.2 billion that those with News Corp shares should recommend against the reappointment of the six directors at an annual general meeting in New York next month.
The council's chief executive Ann Byrne said the need for a more independent board was heightened by the phone-hacking scandal that led to the closure of News Corp's top-selling British tabloid The News of the World in July.
At least 16 people involved with the newspaper have been arrested.
