Car recharge blamed for ferry fire
A man who was recharging his electric car on a passenger ferry carrying 651 people says he may have been responsible for starting a fire which wrecked several vehicles.
Dane Soeren Ekelund said he used an ordinary extension lead, but it may not have fitted tightly to a special recharge socket.
High humidity on the car deck may have contributed to a short circuit.
Ferry operator DFDS on Thursday temporarily banned recharging of electric cars on its ships.
Mr Ekelund's Nissan car, converted from gas to electric, caught fire on the deck, putting Scandinavian authorities on high alert. No one was injured. Three vehicles and a truck trailer were wrecked by the pre-dawn fire.
The cause of the blaze is being investigated.
