China premier to meet Obama in US

China's premier will meet President Barack Obama at the UN General Assembly meeting in New York next week.

Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin said the two will discuss a range of bilateral and international issues.

The meeting comes amid a push to repair strained relations after disagreements over everything from trade policy to arms sales to Taiwan.

Premier Wen Jiabao's meeting with Mr Obama marks a symbolic step in getting ties back on track ahead of a possible visit to Washington in January by China's president.

President Hu Jintao last week told American officials that China wants healthy ties between the countries.
