Courtney Love 'sued over jewellery'

A celebrity jewellery firm which claims Courtney Love has not returned borrowed baubles worth more than £71,000 is suing to get them back.

In a lawsuit, New York-based Jacob & Co says the singer borrowed two white gold and diamond chains, a white gold bracelet and a pair of white gold and diamond pave earrings on September 21. The company says she has returned only the bracelet, despite demands for the other pieces.

Love's spokesman and lawyer did not immediately respond to messages.

Love fronted the band Hole and is the widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.

Jacob & Co was founded by "Jacob the Jeweller" Arabov. He gained cachet in hip-hop circles before going to prison in 2008 for lying to investigators looking into a drug ring.

The company's lawyer Jeffrey Klarsfeld said Love indicated to the jeweller that she had lost the items, but their agreement specified that she was responsible for them "regardless of loss or damage".

The lawsuit seeks the gems or their value.

Love, 46, also an actress, has appeared in films including The People vs Larry Flynt and 200 Cigarettes.
