Critics kick out McQueen 'heckler'
Armond White has been thrown out of the New York Film Critics Circle after allegedly heckling 12 Years A Slave director Steve McQueen in a foul-mouthed tirade at the group's annual awards banquet.
The group voted yesterday to expel the outspoken CityArts critic. Circle member Owen Gleiberman of Entertainment Weekly confirmed White's removal in an online post.
White reportedly yelled expletives at Briton McQueen when he accepted the award for best director at last week's New York Film Critics Awards. He was quoted as loudly calling McQueen an "embarrassing doorman and garbage man".
White has denied that, calling the claims a "barrage of lies". Known for his controversial reviews, White lambasted 12 Years A Slave as "torture porn".
