Dad shoots three children dead

A Danish man shot dead his three children but then failed to kill himself with an overdose of pills.

Police went to the man's home in Birkeroed, north of Copenhagen, after a call from his estranged wife.

She was worried by a text message from the man saying he would take the children "on a journey".

The couple had split custody of the children.

When police arrived at the father's home, they found two boys, aged two and 10, and an eight-year-old girl shot dead.

The father was conscious but ill, apparently from an overdose of sleeping pills. Police believe he tried to kill himself after the attack.

Police refused to identify him in line with Danish privacy rules
