'Dead' child sits up and asks for drink

Mourners in Brazil got a shock when a two-year-old boy lying ‘dead’ in his coffin, sat up and asked for a drink before lying down and ‘dying’ for a second time.

Tot Kelvin Santos had been receiving treatment in hospital for pneumonia and when doctors believed he had died, his body was sent home where it was kept in an open coffin.

But just an hour before the funeral, the child sat up and said: “Daddy, can I have some water”, prompting his family to describe it as a miracle.

“Then Kelvin just laid back down. We couldn’t wake him. He was dead again,” his father Antonio said.

Mr Santos is critical of the doctors who first sent him home, presumed dead and police are investigating the incident.

“Perhaps they didn’t examine him properly,” he said.
