Death toll in Egyptian heatwave rises to 93

A heatwave over the past week has killed at least 93 people in Egypt, the state news agency says, with temperatures set to remain high over coming days.

Egyptian summers are usually hot, but temperatures this week soared to 46C (114F) in the country's south as the Middle East was hit by a heatwave.

The state news agency MENA said temperatures are expected to rise around the country on Sunday and will reach 42C (107F) in the capital Cairo.

MENA issued the new death toll and said most of those killed were elderly. The victims also included three patients at a psychiatric hospital and three detainees in a jail, both north of Cairo.
