A United States mayor has "banned" Donald Trump from entering his city.

Trump yesterday called for a "complete and total ban" on Muslims entering the US until officials understand where their "hatred" comes from.

Rick Kriseman, mayor of St Petersburg in Florida, responded with a sarcastic tweet: "I am hereby barring Donald Trump from entering St. Petersburg until we fully understand the dangerous threat posed by all Trumps."

It has been retweeted over 7,000 times.

Kriseman later said he was only "answering ridiculousness with ridiculousness".

The Republican presidential candidate had released a statement citing polling data he says shows "there is great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population."

Meanwhile, UK Home Secretary Theresa May has been urged to ban Trump from the United Kingdom.
