Donald Trump dismisses 'Obamacare' health policy as a 'broken mess'

President Donald Trump has called the "Obamacare" system a "broken mess".

The latest tweeted comments come after moves by the president to dismantle the Affordable Care Act passed under his predecessor Barack Obama.

The legislation is widely known in the US as Obamacare.

Mr Trump tweeted on Friday that "piece by piece" his administration will begin the process of "giving America the great HealthCare it deserves!"

The White House said late on Thursday it would immediately halt payments to insurers under the Obama-era health care law.

Stopping the payments, which help people with modest incomes, would trigger a spike in premiums for next year unless Mr Trump reverses course or Congress authorises the money.

In a tweet earlier on Friday Mr Trump invited congressional Democrats to "call me to fix" the healthcare system.

In a pre-dawn post, the president reiterated his oft-stated argument that "Obamacare is imploding".

Addressing Democrats, he tweeted that "massive subsidy payments to their pet insurance companies has stopped. Dems should call me to fix!"

Since his presidential campaign and during nearly nine months in office, Mr Trump has persistently called for getting rid of the 2010 Obama law.

His fellow Republicans supported him but neither Mr Trump nor the party have been able to muster sufficient strength to get the repeal bill through the Senate.
