F1 champion's son Gary Brabham jailed for raping young girl
The son of three-times Formula One champion Jack Brabham is to serve at least six months in prison after being found guilty of the rape and indecent treatment of a young girl.
Gary Thomas Brabham, a former Formula Ford and Formula 3 driver in Europe, was convicted at Brisbane's District Court last month after pleading not guilty to the charges involving a child under 12.
Australian Associated Press said the 55-year-old was sentenced on Friday to 18 months in prison, to be suspended after six months.
During the trial, prosecutors alleged the offences took place between 2003 and 2007 when the girl was aged between six and 10.
Gary Brabham made an attempt at Formula One racing in 1990, but failed to qualify for the first two races of the season and quit.
