Five killed in Italy bus crash

Italian news reports said at least five people were killed when the bus they were travelling in veered off a highway and plunged into a ditch near Padua.

The Ansa news agency said the bus was taking retired carabinieri police officers to a national convention near Venice when it ploughed through the highway barricades.

Ansa says rescue crews have recovered five bodies and that several other passengers were injured.

Photographs from the scene showed the bus in a ditch, a helicopter, ambulances and rescue vehicles nearby.
